Woods Lake Report January 2010

I wish Mick had sent the no wind from Arthurs down the road to Woods as it was wild there today- I should have left the rod at home and brought my kite. Really gusty and swirly breeze most of the day, the met bureau weathermen got it wrong on the cloud as that wasnt there either !

A breath of fresh air for Lofty

with Greg "Lofty" Hynes

Early December 2008 my son arrived back in Australia fresh from a pretty hectic time in Afghanistan with the 4 RAR commandos. He called me and said "dad I want to go back to Tassie fishing'. It had been over four years since we had been fishing together and over three years since I left Tasmania to live on the Gold Coast in Qeensland.

Woods Lake Report

Received a call from ******** as he headed home from Woods Lake Saturday 12 Sept. Road very rough, but fishing today was exceptional. Party finished with four with others hooked and lost but saw some magnificent fish at the boat ramp and no one seemed to come off the water empty handed. Didn't matter what you put at them, they took it, he said. The fish are in good condition.

One of our states more under-utilized fisheries, Woods Lake is situated some thirteen kilometers southeast from the Arthurs Lake dam wall at the end of a rocky, bumpy bush track.

Woods Lake a mecca for early season anglers

Woods Lake continues to be one of the most exciting trout fisheries in Tasmania. Catch rates are high with many anglers taking limit bags of five fish. It should be noted regulations are quite specific to Woods Lake. A 5 fish bag limit applies for Woods Lake, with a minimum length of 300 mm and only two fish exceeding 600 mm.
