Leven River - 30/11/11

With humid conditions I was undecided where to fish today, so tossed a coin heads will go to the Leven River and tails to the Meander River. Heads it was. On arriving at the Leven my usual area I fish was flowing very fast and having to cross it there was too risky, so I moved further upstream to another of my favourite fishing zones.

The river here is mainly fast water but it was wade-able and I could also get to the other side where the river has more access. Using a Mepps #0 Black Fury gold with black face and yellow dots I managed 3 nice plump little browns ( 320gms) in the first 20m of river, a great start to the day. Into the next section of river and 2 hook-ups for one small brown ( 210gms) and a few hit and misses to go with it.
The section of river ahead had quite a few long deep sections in it and was the colour of black coffee from the weekends rain, so fished the full length of these sections to no avail, not a touch. I tried several different types and colours and still nothing until the next stretch of fast water where I finally hooked 7 browns but only landed 2 of these, not a good strike rate I know. I caught one more small brown in the next run of river and then called it a day after fishing around 2 kms of river. This was not one of my better days, but still good to be on the river and catch a few in tough conditions.
